How To Update Linked Tables In Access After The Backend Database Moves To A New Location

In Access Linked Table Manager is used to re-establish the links from your linked tables when the backend database has been moved.

If in the backend of your Access Database, linked tables are present and you move the backend database then the frontend database stops working properly. This won't work until you update the linked tables in the frontend to point to the new location. So, learn how you can update linked tables in Access.

Steps To Update Linked Tables In Access After The Backend Database Moves To A New Location

Open the front-end database. When you open the frontend database after shifting the backend, a message will displayed regarding Access could not find the backend database file. Click OK.

You may also get warning message about any AutoExec macros that couldn't run. Now click Stop All Macros.

From the External Tab on the ribbon, click the Linked Table Manager present in the Import & Link group.

Or You can also make a right click on a linked table and select linked table manger from the contextual menu.

After then select the tables you needs to update and click ok.

Search for the backend database file and click open.

Access will show the task completing message once the linked tables have been refreshed. After then tap to the OK option.

Linked Table Manager will display the new location of the backend database for each of the linked tables. After then click to Close option. Completing all this will update the Linked tables.
